Reference Lab Supervisor

Reference Lab Supervisor Job Summary:

Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of Immunohematology testing personnel and overseeing reporting of all test results. Responsibilities include scheduling, supervising staff, managing projects, ensuring prompt resolution of issues, problems, and/or complaints. Will be directly involved with reporting of test results, advanced component preparation (freezing, deglycing, washing of red cells), rare unit inventory and utilization of antibody positive units. In addition, maintains customer and vendor relationships and integrating operations with other blood bank processes as appropriate. Plans and implements policies and procedures for Immunohematology Laboratories ensuring compliance with FDA and other oversight agency regulations. Evaluates existing programs, services, techniques and procedures for efficiencies and improvements.

  • Able to write, execute and/or evaluate validation plans as needed.
  • Anticipates future needs; assists in and facilitates revising/improving/developing programs, policies, and procedures to accomplish long range benefits to the blood center.
  • Is responsible for staff performance and evaluations, staff recruitment, retention training and development. Works closely with the Technical Director and HR Director on employee issues as they arise.

This is a full-time position offering a comprehensive benefit package.

Shift: PM start time preferred on most days.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Medical Technology required. MT (ASCP) and BB or SBB highly desirable. Must have at least three years experience in Immunohematology testing and services. Supervisory and blood center experience is a plus. Must possess thorough knowledge of cGMP and FDA regulations.

Blood Bank Laboratory Supervisor

Job Summary: Coordinates resources to ensure that a high level of clinical and technical performance is consistently available and a maximum level of test performance is sustained. Guarantees adequate staffing to provide lab services as needed to patients/medical staff according to the minimum staffing requirements. Ensures the prompt resolution of issues, problems, and/or complaints. Communicates & coordinates shift operations with other shifts to minimally impact operations.
Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of Medical Technology required; 4 years experience as a medical technologist in a clinical laboratory; must be board registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification. SBB certified preferred.

LifeSource has an exciting opportunity for the right individual to lead the area of Technical Operations at their Glenview site. This department is responsible for manufacture, labeling and Quality Control testing of blood products. The Director of Technical Operations should have the ability to work in a challenging and innovative environment where their leadership can make a difference.

This position is responsible for the overall management of the Manufacturing, Labeling, and Quality Control departments inclusive of several direct reports. The candidate should demonstrate strong leadership and partnering skills, along with a solid blood banking background.

The Director of Technical Operations will be responsible for assuring that all products manufactured are in compliance with FDA and AABB regulations. Past experience in blood banking and regulated GMP environment a must.

This position requires a minimum of 5 years experience in laboratory management, preferably in a blood center. Quality assurance in a regulated environment is strongly recommended. BS in science is required. ASCP certification in Blood Banking is strongly preferred. A candidate that is qualified and willing to acquire Specialist Blood Banking (SBB) will be considered.
